Management Team Advisory Group Manager

Location – London

We have an exciting opportunity for a Manager to work with our client’s Management Team Advisory Group (MTAG).

The MTAG market segment works closely with Chief Officer-level directors of privately-owned and Private Equity-backed companies, key contacts within Private Equity houses or other potential purchasers. The objective of our client’s work is to ensure that the management team’s equity or other incentives are structured in a commercially and tax efficient manner, in order to align interests between management and the investors and to motivate and retain key executives of the business. Often the work is time pressured, fast moving and confidential so requires some flexibility from the team.

The role

In order to help the team to grow, our client is looking for someone who can:

  • Communicate complex issues in an effective and efficient way
  • Project manage while working to tight deadlines in a demanding environment
  • Act with the best interests of the firm in mind
  • Operate effectively under pressure
  • Think and act commercially
  • Consistently exceed client expectations
  • Soak up and share knowledge whilst retaining a creative and innovative mindset
  • Thrive and hold their own in challenging circumstances and against headstrong stakeholders

The emphasis of our client’s work is tax planning projects during a transaction.  Often that will involve a third-party buyer but we also work on equity resets, joiners/leavers, or assignments linked to a float process. The key issues that the team looks at are in relation to management shareholders and often involve working with the firm’s international network. Our client’s work focuses on both acquisitions, sales, restructuring and refinancing projects and public listings and they work closely with the rest of the Deals Tax group, Reward team, Corporate Finance, Transaction Services, Business Recovery Services and Legal teams within the firm. The firm’s main clients include the management shareholders of a company, the company directly, or Private Equity houses.

You should be able to interact with senior people internally and at client teams as well as those from banks, law firms and other large accountancy firms. You will need to be confident and resilient in this environment. There’s a lot of interaction with other parts of the firm, building relationships quickly and working with teams as One Firm.

You will be preparing technical work with the support of junior and senior colleagues.

In addition to client work you will be expected to take part in business development initiatives, help with pitches to clients and attend networking events.

Looking for ways to develop yourself and others is an integral part of the culture.

Skills and attributes

This is a fantastic role for someone who is looking to build valuable front-line transaction and commercial experience and enhance their technical and client relationship skills and the experience gained in working with C suite members directly offers an unrivalled opportunity to develop not only excellent interpersonal and communication skills but also an excellent network.

Our client is looking for people that are either CTA qualified and/or ACA qualified with experience of deal-based tax projects (ideally with a working knowledge of the Private Equity industry).

You will need a high level of emotional intelligence, both in order to develop trusted relationships with those around you but also in terms of your own self-awareness in order to build resilience.
