Senior Corporate Tax Manager – Energy


Location – Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, London, Manchester


Our client’s Energy Team is recruiting. They are looking for market facing Senior Managers and Managers with experience in corporate tax to join them. Their Energy team operates across key markets nationally, with hubs in Aberdeen, Manchester, and London. You would be supporting existing Oil & Gas clients as they embark on their journey towards net zero, as well as working on renewables and other low carbon sector clients.


The role                          

You will be attached to our client’s Aberdeen office but will work as part of their national Energy Tax team, giving you exposure to clients and deals across the UK.  You will also get the chance to develop relationships with counterparts across the globe, given the firm’s international client base.

You will be responsible for the delivery of tax services to large Energy clients.  Prior experience of the sector is not essential as you will receive full support from the team of Directors and Senior Managers. 


Key responsibilities

  • Working with the Director team to develop client relationships and identify opportunities for the firm
  • Managing a portfolio of Energy clients, being their primary contact for day-to-day tax matters 
  • Management of other teams within the firm (e.g., compliance) to ensure smooth delivery across all areas of corporate tax to your clients.
  • Varied advisory projects, including but not limited to – corporate restructuring, debt / equity reorganisations, corporate interest restriction, overseas and domestic permanent establishments, loss utilisation, etc
  • If desired, delivery of tax due diligence and structuring to support M&A activity, either on existing clients or alongside the firm’s financial due diligence team
  • Leading a team of more junior staff to help them develop and grow 
  • Staying current on sector developments and considering how this impacts clients
  • Developing internal relationships with the wider Energy team’s line of services specialists
  • Managing investment in client and related financial metrics.


Skills and attributes

  • Practice-trained finance professional, with relevant qualification (e.g., ACA/ACCA/CTA).
  • Experience of advising large corporate clients on UK and international tax matters. 
  • Proven client relationship skills and effective management of internal teams.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and sustaining relationships over a period
  • Demonstrated business acumen through an interest in and either experience of sector issues or an enthusiasm to learn ultimately being confident discussing these issues with clients.
  • Clear communication, and the ability to summarise complex tax matters.
  • Ability to manage your own time and work to deadlines.
  • Commitment to developing self, proactive mindset, and desire to make the role your own.
