The role
This position is a combination role for direct tax and transfer pricing with dual functional reporting lines into the Tax Advisory Manager located in London and the Tax and Transfer Pricing Manager located in Singapore. The role is responsible for assisting both managers with ensuring that the company and its subsidiaries comply with their corporation tax and transfer pricing obligations globally, that international transactions are structured in a tax efficient and transfer pricing compliant manner and that corporation tax and transfer pricing risks associated with cross-border transactions, are identified and effectively managed. The main focus of this role is to function as the tax advisor for the retail business covering direct tax and transfer pricing matters. Also transfer pricing is likely to be the smaller part of the role.
The role will be located in London and will report to the Tax Advisory Manager.
Key responsibilities
- Primary tax focal point for the Retail business which is Head quartered in Manchester with operations in UK, France and the Netherlands
- Assisting with enquiries from management and the businesses regarding the tax implications of UK and cross-border transactions and structures;
- Working with Front Office to understand commercial strategy to ensure early identification of new corporation tax risks and development of ideas for minimisation of corporation tax costs;
- Reviewing contractual documentation to identify and mitigate tax risks;
- Providing general TP advice and support – including advice on application of TP law and practice to the company and wider intercompany transactions;
- TP analysis of new intercompany transactions, provision of recommendations on TP approach to other tax team members;
- Assist in the identification of transfer pricing opportunities through changes to TP policies and practices;
- Assist in handling direct tax audits as well as TP audits, TP defence and TP disputes;
- Assist in preparing in-house position on certain types of transactions and treatment of local/international legislation;
- Monitoring developments in local direct tax legislation and in important international initiatives, including local implementation of BEPS initiatives in countries of the company and wider operations;
- Working with Finance and other support functions to ensure that the approved TP methodologies are correctly implemented;
- Assisting the Tax Advisory Manager and the Tax and Transfer Pricing Manager on projects and activities as required.

Experience
- Tax advisory and Transfer pricing experience in professional practice or a multinational company for at least 2-3 years
- Practical experience of application of UK legislation and an understanding of UK international tax legislation, particularly CFC and foreign branch exemption rules
- Familiarity with international corporate tax issues and main international initiatives (DAC6, etc)
- Practical experience of implementation of OECD guidelines, global TP rules in a commercial context
- An understanding of downstream aspects of energy markets is preferable but not essential.
