VAT Compliance Specialist


Location – Brighton


Our client is a tax compliance and consulting company with worldwide reach.  Their core business is indirect tax compliance and due to the success of the business, they’re building a new team in Brighton, UK.  Our client is young company but growing fast and has had an average of 65% growth per year over the last three years. 


The role                          

Our client is seeking VAT compliance specialists to be part of their team in Brighton.  The role includes working with clients to help them understand their filing requirements, obtain and review VAT return data, and file the VAT return with the local country tax office.  This is an opportunity to be part of a smaller team (for now!) with a start-up feel whilst working alongside experienced professionals with big-4 backgrounds. As a result, there will be the chance to be creative and take initiative when it comes to how you think things should be done; whilst the firm has existing compliance processes in place, they are constantly seeking to improve the way they operate to benefit clients, staff, and the company.

The role will be mostly office based since our client feels it is important to be in an environment where you can learn from others, feel part of a team and enjoy the sociable side of work. There will also be the chance to progress your career in the world of VAT as the team grows. 


Key responsibilities

  • Work with a varied client base to manage their VAT/GST compliance around the world.
  • Ensure data is obtained from the client and returns are file on time.
  • Review and check client data with the help of the VAT consulting team to ensure accuracy.
  • Liaise with third parties that may be involved in the compliance reporting process.
  • Assist with VAT/GST registrations and deregistrations.
  • Assist with VAT/GST audits carried out by tax authorities.



Skills and attributes

  • The firm files returns in more than 50 countries so they need people that can work with a high volume of data.  Excel skills are therefore a requirement.
  • At least six months’ experience of working in a VAT compliance role.
  • Excellent communication skills and a team player.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Strong analytical nature and willingness to solve problems.
  • Highly motivated with the ability to learn and adapt quickly to change.
  • Experience of working to tight deadlines.
  • An additional language would be a differentiator, particularly if you are fluent in French or German.
