Transfer Pricing Senior Manager

Our client’s UK transfer pricing practice is a highly dynamic and successful team within their UK National Markets tax business with a presence in London, Gatwick, Reading, Bristol, Cambridge, Milton Keynes, Nottingham, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool, Newcastle, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen. A constantly changing and highly significant area of international tax, the transfer pricing team helps clients establish, document and defend market-based pricing terms in relation to transactions within multinational groups.

The team has a varied mix of tax professionals, accountants and economists with backgrounds from industry, practice and HMRC. This variety of backgrounds will give you the opportunity to work with people who are experts in their field and help you to build a diverse skillset.


The role                          

Our client is looking for a Senior Manager to join their National Markets practice, working closely with key Partners to focus on large privately owned and listed groups to advise on complex areas of transfer pricing policy and dispute resolution.  


Key responsibilities        

As Senior Manager within the transfer pricing team, you will be involved in:

  • Developing and maintaining client relationships. You would be expected to manage a portfolio of transfer pricing clients and broaden this work to other areas of tax.
  • Identifying market opportunities and successfully targeting businesses and winning transfer pricing work in the market
  • Working on a variety of multi-disciplinary projects across multiple jurisdictions with a wide variety of clients from owner managed businesses to large multinationals. The individual would own the project and have an experienced team working to them to deliver this.
  • Interviewing clients to understand activities and value drivers for clients’ businesses
  • Determining key industry features across varied industries that influence the pricing of transactions
  • Setting transfer pricing policy and being the technical reviewer for transfer pricing deliverables before Director/ Partner sign off as well as benchmarking market prices across industries and transaction types
  • Establishing and documenting pricing policies for clients
  • Reviewing and setting the strategy to deliver transfer pricing reports and OECD-compliant documentation
  • Supporting clients with tax authority enquiries and Advance Pricing Agreements
  • Coordinating with the firm’s international tax, indirect tax and other teams across the business on a range of topics
  • Coaching and developing junior members of staff
  • Driving the team’s business development and marketing initiatives.



Skills and attributes       

The successful candidate will have the following skills and previous experience in the following areas:

  • Either a CTA, CA, ACA qualification, a bachelor’s degree in law or accounting, Masters in Economics or equivalent qualification.
  • You will have gained experience of direct transfer pricing experience. Our client would expect the experience to include: tax value chain analyses, debt pricing, benchmarking strategy, preparing and reviewing transfer pricing documentation, supporting with tax authority enquiries/Advance Pricing Agreements, project management and managing junior team members
  • Extensive direct experience of working in a Transfer Pricing Team within a large international consulting firm, tax authority or in-house within a multinational
  • Sound judgement, including the ability to identify and evaluate risk issues and know when to involve others.
  • High level analytical skills and a commercial approach to resolving issues and providing advice
  • High level of drive and enthusiasm with a positive attitude
  • Good commercial awareness and an ability to manage a project and team to a budget
  • Ability and willingness to keep up to date technically and develop the technical ability of the team below you
  • Evidence of appreciation of and understanding of ethical/risk issues within a client service environment
  • Evidence of relationship building and an ability to sell transfer pricing services
  • Strong people skills for engaging with clients and managing a team of people
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and project management skills


The role is fully flexible with all of the firm’s office locations being available as flexibility around location can be available for the right candidate.
