R&D Tax Manager


Location – London


The role

The R&D Manager will be responsible for providing specialist advice to our client’s UK’s clients on R&D tax reliefs, including the technical, tax and financial aspects of the relief schemes.

In addition, to being the final escalation point on claims, and must be at hand to ensure regular feedback is given to greatly enhance learning and peer to peer feedback.

This role requires a unique blend of Tax knowledge, People Management, Fantastic communication/client-facing skills to guarantee client retention and satisfaction.

As a Manager, you will be responsible for leading, line managing and mentoring a team of 5 employees – in addition to fostering an environment that encourages peer to peer knowledge transfer.


Key responsibilities

  • Maintain excellent client relationships across a portfolio of clients you manage
  • Review and finalise deliverables, monitoring profitability on claims and to own client relationships for larger clients
  • Have a robust understanding and knowledge of schemes relating to SMEs and large companies
  • Manage large claims and to delegate work efficiently to the wider Innovation team
  • Support the sales team with Business Development activities, identifying potential leads, actively contribute towards Sales proposals, and other Sales activities
  • Contribute as an industry expert by keeping abreast of changes within industry and regulation
  • Demonstrate the ability to promote team-working and collaboration within the Innovation department and across the different teams
  • Provide adequate briefing, supervision, and training for junior employees
  • Review work completed by junior employees for adequacy and completeness, whilst also providing feedback
  • Ensure that the firm’s quality control procedures are adhered to as appropriate
  • Take a project management viewpoint across the different client engagements
  • Ensure delegated tasks are complete on time.


As a general rule, we would expect Managers to have a degree within the following disciplines:

  • Civil Engineering
  • Structural Engineering
