R&D IT Senior


Location – UK (open to flexible working)


An exciting opportunity to work within our client’s Innovation Incentives team in any location across the UK, including (but not restricted to) London, Manchester, Leeds, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Birmingham or Reading.

The role                          

As a Manager in the team you will be working with a variety of very high-profile clients (FTSE 100 and 250 multinational companies), who are at the front line in developing cutting edge technology which is helping the UK to stay as a market leader by encouraging investment into research and development.

You will be required to work closely with clients’ finance, tax and engineering departments. You will work with clients from all different sectors and of all different sizes. Working within the team you will be leading the preparation of R&D claims and making sure of compliance against tax legislation. Within the Innovation team you will be exposed to cash grants and patent box applications. As well as working directly on existing projects, you will also be offered the chance to support business development opportunities.

You’ll be based primarily at your home office but there will be a small requirement to travel when supporting our client’s national practice.

Key responsibilities

  • To contribute to the efficient and successful delivery of R&D tax services to the client inclusive of all tax technical elements
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients and provide high levels of client service
  • Build relationships both within the firm and externally with clients, identifying opportunities and managing expectations
  • Contribute to winning new work by proactively managing existing clients and contribute to winning new clients.
  • Assist with the management and successful delivery of tax projects, ensuring technical excellence and practical/business driven approach taken
  • Responsible for day-to-day client liaison


Skill and attributes

  • Experienced R&D tax practitioner
  • Team player; ability to integrate with new teams quickly
  • Outgoing with good relationship skills and the ability to deliver quality output
  • Strong technical skills and keen to develop further
  • Ability to build strong client relationships
  • Ability to identify areas of risk, carry out an effective review and know when to refer upwards
  • Relationship management skills with ability to manage client expectations
  • Ability to build effective relationships at all levels
  • Ability to solve problems creatively and pragmatically


To qualify for the role you must have

  • Fully qualified ACA/CA/ACCA/ATT/CTA; or Tax Inspectors with full Technical Training Course
  • Minimum 3 years as an R&D tax practitioner with experience leading on, and project managing, the preparation of claims
  • Strong Excel capability including use of VLOOKUP, IF functions and pivot tables, including manipulating large and complex datasets
  • Experience in leading teams and coordinating delivery of services both in the office and remotely
  • Strong writing and communication skills.


Ideally, you’ll also have

  • Project management skills, plan and prioritise work, meet deadlines, monitor own budget
  • Experience in Alteryx
