Not for Profit Tax Assistant Manager/Manager

Our client is looking for an Assistant Manager/Manager to join their Not for Profit tax team in London and the South East. You will provide tax advice to some of the largest charities and social enterprises in London and the South, working closely with Partners and Directors.

The team is passionate about building long term relationships in the sector and playing an important role in helping clients deliver their social impact. The team’s clients are charities, social housing providers, educational institutions and membership bodies. The client base includes many of the largest not for profit bodies in the UK, supporting a huge range of objectives across every area of society.


The role                          

As a corporate tax specialist you will work with your clients to develop solutions to the issues they face. You will also have the opportunity to develop your skills in more specialist areas like Gift Aid and cultural and creative relief claims and to find innovative ways to deliver our support.

As a primary contact with clients, you will coordinate advice from other areas of our client’s tax business, and other parts of the firm. You will develop strong relationships with your clients and develop a genuine understanding of their organisations, so that you can identify opportunities for the Firm to support them to make their impact. Key to our client’s proposition is finding the right solutions for clients from across the Firm and this is underpinned by the relationships that you will build and the advice that you deliver.

As part of this role, you will manage and mentor junior team members, and be a key part of creating a sense of team and shared purpose.

Our client’s South East team champion the Not for Profit sector both internally and externally; responding to consultations, contributing to technical debates and preparing content on key tax and sector based issues. As part of a team they work together so that everyone contributes to this in ways that interests them, and supports their development.

This role will suit someone from a general large corporate or real estate background who is looking to specialise in working with organisations with social purpose. Previous experience of working with the charitable sector is not necessary, but experience of working with large or complex organisations and holding senior level client relationships will be important.


Key responsibilities        

As an Assistant Manager/Manager within the team you will work with the Partner and Directors to lead our client’s tax services to a portfolio of clients. As well as leading the delivery of corporation tax services, you will bring together other specialists and teams, responding to the client’s needs.

Some ways that you might do this include:

  • Build strong relationships as a key contact for clients, getting to know them and the organisations they represent
  • Identifying and advising on tax issues and opportunities bringing together the right team and reporting to the Partner or Directors
  • Identify opportunities to extend our client’s offering to existing clients and targets
  • Lead the delivery of tax compliance services to your clients, leveraging your understanding of the organisation and reviewing work prepared by more junior members of the team
  • Coaching and developing junior members of staff to build the team
  • Represent the firm in tax technical submissions, webinars and seminars or other opportunities to provide thought leadership to the sector
  • Work as part of management team with other managers within the business group, and provide support to the rest of the Tax team
  • Counsel, appraise, develop and motivate staff as appropriate
  • Participate in bids/proposals for new work as requested
  • Consult with colleagues and Partners on technical and risk matters.


Skills and attributes       

  • CTA and/or ACA qualified or equivalent
  • An in depth, up to date, knowledge of tax
  • Experience of managing the delivery of advisory and compliance projects
  • Experience of supervising a team
  • Ability to manage a client portfolio profitably
  • Experience of dealing with client senior management
