Manager – Tax Advisory

Location – London

The Tax Advisory manager will play a pivotal role in the tax function, providing tax support to our client’s business.

The Tax Advisory Manager will be responsible for managing, progressing and completing Tax projects to ensure that our client is tax compliant. They will need strong project management and communication skills to ensure that the correct tax treatment is applied and that robust tax controls exist and where possible, embedded into the business. They will also deal with numerous ad hoc tax queries from the business from a wider variety of stakeholders. 

The Tax Advisory Manager, Indirect Tax Manager and Tax compliance Manager all report to the Head of Tax.  

Your key responsibilities

  • Supporting the Head of Tax to provide tax technical support on commercial business projects and manage tax projects and initiatives concerning Corporation Tax, VAT and Employment Taxes and other general taxes.  
  • Support the Head of Tax to deliver the Tax Strategy,  tax governance framework so SAO requirements are met.  
  • Build and maintain a positive working relationship with a variety of internal stakeholders to ensure tax controls are disseminated in the business and provide tax training where necessary.
  • Ensure that the business is tax compliant and that effective controls are in place and are maintained for existing and emerging tax legislation.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for process improvement in tax procedures.
  • Responsibility to provide tax advice to ad hoc queries from the business across all taxes.
  • Engagement with HMRC to resolve on tax queries accurately and in a timely manner and facilitate well run HMRC audits.
  • The role will require support to the Compliance Tax Manager and Indirect Tax Manager at peak times and to provide a second line of defence.

Skills and attributes

The Tax Advisory Manager will have a good understanding of tax compliance requirements and will provide technical support to the Tax Compliance Manager and Indirect Tax Manager. They will also be able to be “hands on” to help complete compliance tasks at key peaks of the reporting
cycle.

To qualify for the role you, must have

  • Strong technical knowledge in Corporate Tax, VAT and Employment Tax is essential.
  • Professionally qualified in tax or accountancy.
  • Previous experience in working in a general taxation role, in house preferred (3 years plus),
  • experience in the utilities sector not a key requirement.
  • Previous tax compliance experience and understanding of compliance processes across key taxes.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills – ability to disseminate technical information into easily understood guidance for non-tax colleagues.
  • Strong service delivery focus and attention to detail.
  • A proactive team player, ability to work autonomously under pressure to tight deadlines.
  • Strong skills in Excel and familiarity with Alphatax and SAP.

Employees need to be aware that for some craft and operational roles that work at height, or use fall arrest devices, there is an upper weight limit of 116Kg due to maximum safe working load of the safety equipment that is used.
