Manager, Insurance Premium Tax, Financial Services

Our client’s global Centre of Expertise for Insurance Premium Tax (IPT) is based in the UK and controls and co-ordinates the delivery of IPT services around the world, providing clients with a global single-point-of-contact for governance and control of all IPT matters. The team is supported by the firm’s global network of dedicated IPT professionals in more than 150 countries where transactional taxes are levied on premiums (including VAT, GST, WHT, and other parafiscal charges).


The role                          

Our client’s IPT professionals provide pragmatic commercial help to insurers, brokers and multinational policyholders so they can improve their day-to-day reporting for indirect tax. They use their deep sector experience and knowledge of different legal and regulatory systems around the world to help clients meet their compliance obligations as well as achieve their business goals.

Our client is looking for a highly experienced manager to help drive the IPT practice forward and act as “IPT Controller” on multijurisdictional compliance engagements.


Key responsibilities        

Our client is looking for a manager with the ability to create, sustain and lead effective teams. You will ensure the delivery of quality work and take day to day management of delivery team. This includes helping people to develop through effectively supervising, coaching and mentoring staff. You will contribute to people initiatives, including retaining and training international tax professionals. This comes with significant involvement in the management of the team both in terms of strategy and operations and also involves managing junior staff development and assignment.


Skills and attributes       

Our client is looking for a highly experienced tax practitioner with reviewing skills and expertise in indirect tax compliance. You are enthusiastic and have a flexible attitude to work as well as an excellent communicator in a range of situations both written and oral.

  • Exceptional levels of client service
  • Negotiation skills, able to sustain opinion and handle queries
  • Business development skills – able to identify and convert opportunities to sell work by proactively managing existing clients and winning new clients.
  • Ability to manage possible leads from other areas of the practice
  • Proven background in building networks and relationships internally and externally
  • Extensive European premium tax compliance experience.
  • Project management skills
  • Ability to build strong client relationships and commercial awareness
  • Effective time management skills; the ability to remain calm when under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Excellent communicator in a range of situations both written and oral
  • The ability to seek possible improvements to processes, technologies and methodologies (e.g. automation, analytics) and communicate the ideas with the team
  • Experience in managing both offshore and onshore teams to plan and deliver the entire compliance process
