Indirect Tax Senior, Tax Technology, Financial Services

Our client’s high profile and award-winning VAT group based within their regional offices in the UK focus on advising clients through the maze of taxes, including VAT, Customs Duties, Excise and Betting Duties, Insurance Premium Tax, Air Passenger Duty and Landfill Tax.

The Indirect tax team in London works with a variety of organisations across multiple sectors. The business has been growing steadily year on year and in order to seize the opportunities available in the market, the team requires new talent particularly in relation to their indirect tax technology and compliance solutions offering which is one of the strategic growth areas for the firm


The role                          

The role will focus on supporting client transformation through technology enablement often on a multi country basis.  In addition, there is a considerable amount of client interaction. Our client is looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and hard-working tax professional who is looking for a career move into this exciting new area of tax.

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to join the firm’s specialist Indirect Tax team in their London office. The team help support and deliver Indirect Tax advice and process transformation through technology for their clients across the UK. This role will provide an opportunity to be involved in a fast-growth part of the Indirect Tax team, working across the UK. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to work with both clients and all of the firm’s local offices, providing a great opportunity to build and expand your corporate network.

Key responsibilities

  • Build and maintain relationships with clients and provide high levels of client service
  • Build relationships both within the firm and externally with clients, identifying opportunities and managing expectations
  • Contribute to winning new work by proactively managing existing clients and contribute to winning new clients.
  • Manage the successful delivery of tax projects, ensuring technical excellence and practical/business driven approach taken
  • Responsible for day-to-day delivery of client liaison
  • Support the activities of the wider team
  • Key member of one of the client service groups providing full tax services to a client portfolio. 



Skills and attributes

  • Experience of dealing with VAT compliance and processes
  • Strong Indirect Tax technical skills and keen to develop further
  • Ability to build strong client relationships
  • Excellent communicator in range of situations both written and oral
  • Ability to identify areas of risk, carry out an effective review and know when to refer upwards
  • Client focused and commercially aware
  • Relationship management skills with ability to manage client expectations
  • An inclusive team player with ability to build effective relationships at all levels
  • Process and logic driven – the ability to breakdown issues/challenges/solutions into smaller constituent parts while not losing sight of the bigger picture
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong understanding of mathematics
  • Understanding of core programming concepts (e.g. how to construct formulas, arguments, statements – i.e. ‘if/and/while/for’)
  • Strong understanding and experience of practical applications of PESMs
  • Mindset to challenge the status quo in terms of automation (or lack thereof)
  • Be able to assess and deal with challenges in a systematic and logical way
  • Experience in automation of processes (ideally within indirect tax/PESMs)


Essential

  • ACA / CA / Tax Inspectors with full Technical Training course / Law qualification / CTA (or breadth of knowledge equivalent to CTA), or equivalent experience
  • Experience working for a large firm (our client will consider candidates from professional services or law firms)
