The wider context: our client’s Tax team is one of the largest in the UK. It prides itself on being innovative but the market for compliance services is changing fast:
- Clients expect digitally enabled delivery which offers efficiencies and competitive pricing
- HMRC is working towards Making Tax Digital (MTD)
- Our client has to continue to reduce time spent on simple compliance tasks by their staff, so that they can focus on more complex compliance matters, advisory work and relationship building.
The role
Our client needs an Associate (either Associate or Senior Associate) to support the ongoing transformation of their compliance processes and to prepare our business for MTD.
Key responsibilities
- Support the CT Compliance Champion with efforts in respect of process standardisation and improvement in respect of the end-to-end compliance cycle (ie scoping and information gathering through to the packaging of deliverables and submission to HMRC)
- Work with client teams and the SSC to understand and implement new processes
- Assist with the annual forecasting processes (e.g. for using the SSC or other new tools/processes)
- Deal with queries from IT/ Tax Technology in relation to their work with developing new products and improving existing products
- Help with monitoring progress reports and where necessary help develop new reporting to support progress in transforming tax compliance services
- Provide assistance and support as required on ad hoc projects e.g. demerger, potential acquisition of trust compliance business
Skills and attributes
- CTA or ACA qualified or equivalent
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Good organisational skills
- Experience of using the SSC and OPTC from the client facing side useful but not essential
- Strong IT skills – excel, word, powerpoint and industry relevant software e.g. CCH, Alphatax
