Our client’s Business Tax department provides a wide range of tax and consulting services to a broad range of companies, from quoted multinational groups to owner managed businesses.
Through establishing close relationships with clients, they ensure that they are able to deliver the most comprehensive business tax advice, and also ensure they are aware of the key opportunities and risks faced by clients.
Our client’s London office provides leading edge advice to private clients, professional practices, mid to large corporates and non-profit organisations. From the London office they provide the full range of services: business advisory services, corporate finance, corporate recovery, corporate tax, forensic services and litigation support, investment management, pensions and financial planning and advice on personal tax and trusts.
The role
To manage your own portfolio of VAT clients, working with Partners / Directors or alone on complicated consultancy and advisory projects. A significant part of the role will be business development of existing and new clients, growing the size of the client portfolio.
Key responsibilities
Client work
- Review of a portfolio of recurring VAT returns and compliance cases
- Undertake consultancy work, including VAT planning and its related impacts
- Manage a portfolio of complex advisory cases
- Act as trusted adviser and engage with clients on wider commercial and strategic issues
- To be able to write clear, concise reports, letters and emails pertaining to VAT issues
- Give exceptional client service
- To be technically strong on all matters relating to VAT and be seen as a subject matter expert in this field
- To identify opportunities to further develop the client portfolio
Staff Management and development
- Liaison with Partners / Directors
- Appraisals/monitor staff performance
- On the job training for junior staff on a one-to-one basis
- Dealing with staff questions
- Work collaboratively with peers in team and across firm to ensure joined up approach
Practice Development
- Involved in business development activities/profile raising locally
- Actively use network of established relationships to drive new business opportunities and cross referral of services
- Able to take advantage of marketing/PR opportunities
Compliance
- Ensuring procedures are followed taking account of institute and HMRC guidance, where relevant
Personal Development (Technical & Other)
- Internal and external seminars and courses
- Provide internal training to internal teams on VAT matters
- Reading of relevant technical papers relating to VAT
- Internal meetings

- Existing business development skills and appetite to grow business
- Project management experience
- Experience of dealing with senior stakeholders both internally and externally
