Senior Corporate Tax Manager

Location – London (Open to Flexible Working)

Our client is seeking to further grow their tax business and build new contacts and engagements, and is looking for tax professionals who excel at client relationships and who have the confidence and would like to develop existing clients and win new work. As a corporate tax professional you’ll provide and manage a full range of tax services as the key relationship holder with the business client. You’ll be working alongside specialists on a day to day basis to help clients through the complexities of planning, managing compliance obligations and maintaining effective relationships with the tax authorities. 
The varied work means ultimately this role will offer a broad experience with significant exposure to clients and senior stakeholders, responsibility in key decisions and a varied portfolio to help you develop your career.


Your key responsibilities

  • You will contribute to the efficient and successful delivery of tax services to the clients, building and maintaining tax relationships with clients to provide high levels of client service.
  • Build and maintain tax relationships with clients and provide high levels of client service; 
  • Win work proactively and contribute to winning new clients;
  • Management of and contribution to the successful delivery of tax projects, ensuring technical excellence and practical / business-driven approach taken. Projects are broad and varied, but include such areas as:
  • Group reorganisations, mergers and demergers, restructuring and statutory clearance applications  
  • Technical analysis and advisory in respect of such areas as Corporate Interest 
  • Restriction, CFC’s, loss relief etc to assist with the compliance process
  • Assisting with international expansion planning and execution
  • Considering the impact of Transfer Pricing, BEPS and Permanent Establishment issues on your client portfolio
  • Advising on the tax impact of commercial decisions such as contracting parties, ownership of IP and global mobility of staff
  • Preparing for transactions, due diligence and post transaction structuring
  • Working closely with personal tax colleagues to look holistically at shareholder planning and exit;
  • Overall responsibility of quality of client service;
  • Manage possible leads from other areas of the practice;
  • Build networks and relationships internally and externally for the team to leverage from 
  • Help people to develop through effectively supervising, coaching and mentoring staff 
  • Contribute to people initiatives, including retaining and training team members 
  • Significant involvement in the management of the team both in terms of strategy and operations and also through managing junior staff development and assignments
  • Be a trusted adviser to your clients, not just in tax but in all areas of business and finance

Skills and attributes

  • Significant experience in Corporate Tax from a large accountancy or law firm and strong technical skills;
  • Strong client relationship management skills with ability to develop quality outputs to clients
  • Ability to build strong client relationships and think broadly and holistically about your clients’ business 
  • Client focused and commercially aware with a wider interest in business and finance outside of tax
  • Negotiation skills, able to sustain opinion and handle challenges
  • Business development skills, able to identify and convert opportunities to sell work
  • Effective time management, ability to remain calm when under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Excellent communicator in a range of situations both written and oral
  • Enthusiastic team player with ability to create, sustain and lead effective teams
  • Ability to identify areas of risk, carry out appropriate review and know when to consult further
  • Experience of coaching and developing more junior staff
  • Ensure delivery of quality work and take day to day management of delivery team

To qualify for the role, you must have

  • ACA/CA/ACCA/CTA; or Tax Inspectors with full Technical Training Course; or Law qualification
  • Experienced corporate tax practitioner 
  • Proven ability to read and interpret existing and new tax statute 
  • Business development skills, able to identify and convert opportunities to sell work

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • Project management skills, plan and prioritize work, meet deadlines, monitor own budget
